Duren agrees to $200 million fully guaranteed deal with Pistons
Jalen Duren agreed to a $200 million contract with the Detroit Pistons on Oct. 2, with the full amount guaranteed, Yahoo Sports reported. He accepted hours before his one-year, $9.6 million qualifying offer expired.
The length of the deal, its average annual value, its 2026-27 salary and the first season it covers were not disclosed. An official signing date has not been reported.
Duren was eligible for a deal worth up to $287 million, according to Yahoo Sports. Detroit's offers moved through the $170 million to $190 million range before settling at $200 million.
The qualifying offer would have sent Duren into unrestricted free agency next summer. "The most important thing for us was having JD back with us," coach J.B. Bickerstaff said after the agreement, per Yahoo Sports.
In the 2025-26 regular season Duren averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds and shot 65% from the field across 70 games. Detroit went 60-22 and finished as the East's top seed.
Duren, 22, made his first All-Star team last season and was named All-NBA third team.
In 14 playoff games he averaged 10.2 points and 8.5 rebounds on 51.4% shooting. Detroit beat Orlando 4-3 in the first round, then lost the conference semifinals to Cleveland in seven games.
PistonPowered reported in May, working from figures credited to Underdog NBA, that the 9.3-point drop was the second-largest playoff scoring decline by an All-Star with at least 10 postseason games. The only larger one belongs to Wilt Chamberlain in 1962, who fell from 50.4 points per game to 35.0.
Last season Duren's $6.5 million salary carried a WAGE Score of 97, in the Steal! tier.
That salary ranked 215th of the 435 rated players, while his production ranked 3rd.
He accounted for 18% of Detroit's production last season on 3% of its payroll, and 11% of its production in the 14 playoff games.
That score was earned on last season's salary and does not carry over to the new guarantee.
The season opens Oct. 20 against Boston at Little Caesars Arena.
