Duren takes five-year, $200 million Pistons offer ahead of qualifying offer deadline
Jalen Duren has agreed on a five-year, $200 million contract with the Detroit Pistons.
He accepted shortly before a midnight deadline on a one-year, $9.6 million qualifying offer, after sitting off the initial training camp roster while talks continued.
Last season Duren was an All-Star and made the All-NBA third team, averaging a career-high 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds.
In the playoffs his scoring fell to 10.2 points as the top-seeded Pistons went out in the second round.
The regular season is what the money follows. Last season Duren was paid like the 215th player in the league and produced like the 3rd, a WAGE Score of 97 in the Steal! tier, per WAGE.
At $40 million a year he would have been paid like the 26th player last season, a pay level where production ran around 91st. The regular-season Duren clears that bar with room to spare; the second-round version is the one that would test it.
