Nets, Porter continue extension talks ahead of $40.8 million final year
The Brooklyn Nets remain in extension talks with Michael Porter Jr., general manager Sean Marks confirmed Monday at Media Day, with neither side pressing for a deal before 2026-27.
Porter is owed $40.8 million in the final year of his contract. Without an extension by June 30, he becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer.
His career-best 24.2 points per game last season came with a WAGE Score of 9, Sunk Cost, down from 55 the year before, per WAGE.
He was paid like the 33rd player in the league and produced like the 163rd.
Waiting lets Brooklyn judge his fit beside Julius Randle and whether his scoring can carry production worth a salary above $40 million.
