Pritchard agrees to two-year, $44.2M Celtics extension with 2029-30 mutual option

Payton Pritchard has agreed to a two-year, $44.2 million contract extension with the Boston Celtics, plus a mutual option for the 2029-30 season, CAA co-head of basketball Austin Brown and agent Max Saidman told ESPN's Shams Charania on Tuesday. ESPN described the deal as a fully guaranteed two-year max extension.

The year-by-year salaries, the season the extension begins and the value of the option were not disclosed. No announcement from the Celtics appears in the reporting.

Pritchard won the 2024 championship with Boston and was named the 2025 Sixth Man of the Year, ESPN reported. Last season he averaged career highs of 17 points, 5.2 assists and 3.9 rebounds.

His role grew last season. He started 50 games, up from 3 the year before, and played 32.4 minutes per game, Yahoo reported.

He shot 37.7% on 7.1 three-point attempts per game, according to Yahoo. His career mark from deep is 39.4%.

Yahoo reported that Pritchard is projected to come off the bench this season behind Derrick White and Baylor Scheierman. Jaylen Brown now plays for the Philadelphia 76ers, and Yahoo expects the Celtics to rely more on Pritchard in that bench role.

Last season Boston paid Pritchard $7.2 million, a salary that ranked 203rd among rated players, for production that ranked 17th.

That return gave him a WAGE Score of 93 for 2025-26 in the Steal! tier, the third straight season his score rose.

Last season's score was earned on that salary and does not carry over to the extension's guaranteed money.

Under the mutual option, either side can opt in for 2029-30, which ESPN reported also opens a window for extension talks that summer.
