Suns, Ighodaro agree to $29 million extension through 2030-31
Oso Ighodaro and the Phoenix Suns agreed to a three-year, $29 million contract extension that runs from 2028-29 through 2030-31, his agent Erika Ruiz of Primera Sports told ESPN's Shams Charania. The guaranteed money, the year-by-year salaries and any options or incentives were not disclosed.
Charania also reported that Phoenix is picking up Ighodaro's $2.5 million team option for 2027-28, with the extension starting the following season. Ighodaro is on a four-year, $7.8 million deal, the Arizona Republic reported.
The agreement came a day before the deadline for rookie-scale and second-round extensions, which the Arizona Republic gave as Oct. 19. ClutchPoints reported that Ighodaro is now signed further out than any other player on the roster, including Devin Booker.
Ighodaro was eligible for up to four years and $92.8 million, and the deal averages just under $10 million a season, below the $12.7 million average Mark Williams got on his three-year, $38 million deal this summer, ClutchPoints reported.
Williams tore the labrum in his left shoulder and is expected to miss multiple months, and Ighodaro is competing with second-year center Khaman Maluach for the starting job, according to ClutchPoints and the Arizona Republic. "We know he's an elite defender, he's an elite possession gainer," head coach Jordan Ott told Phoenix Suns On SI.
Ighodaro went 40th overall in 2024 out of Marquette, and the Suns acquired him on draft night, ClutchPoints reported. Last season he played all 82 games with 24 starts, averaging 6.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 22 minutes on 65.3% shooting, and appeared in both play-in games and the first-round playoff series.
Per WAGE, his $2.0M salary last season ranked 420th of 435 rated players, while his production ranked 89th, a total built across all 82 games and before Williams was hurt.
That 2025-26 output earned a WAGE Score of 80, in the Smart Money tier, and his cost per unit of production was the 7th cheapest among the 399 rated players whose production was above zero, per WAGE.
Those figures describe what a $2.0M salary bought last season. The extension's money does not start until 2028-29, and it asks that output to hold at the new price.
