Towns, Knicks reach media day without four-year, $272 million extension
The New York Knicks and Karl-Anthony Towns have gone a second straight offseason without an extension, with Towns eligible for a four-year, $272 million deal.
Towns holds a $61 million player option for next season. Josh Hart and Miles McBride are also extension-eligible, and Jalen Brunson, back from July surgery on his shooting wrist, is ready for camp.
The defending champions paid a $44.6 million luxury tax in 2025-26, per WAGE.
That bill sat on the 3rd-highest payroll in the league and bought the 6th-most wins, a team WAGE Score of 46, Going Rate.
Any new Towns, Hart or McBride money stacks on top of that tax. A Towns deal asks the wins to climb with it.
