Towns's new frame is a bet that last season was his normal, not his peak

A reshaped body is a workload bet: Karl-Anthony Towns is wagering that his new look holds up across a long season and into another spring.

Last spring showed what that load means. Towns played 19 playoff games for the New York Knicks and carried 17% of the team's playoff production, and the Knicks' coming season turns on whether he can carry it again.

So was that run the peak of what $53.1 million buys? His career says no.

Towns carries a career WAGE Score of 76 over 11 rated seasons, and his 78 WAGE Score in 2025-26 sits right beside it. That is not a spike. It is his normal, delivered on a top-ten salary.

In 2025-26 he was paid like the 9th player in the league and produced like the 7th, a Smart Money return before the playoffs began.

I like the durability underneath it. This works because a big man on a large contract earns his value by showing up, and he played 75 of 82 games last season.

It's early: an October look tells us nothing about minutes, health or production.

Zoom out: few players in the league cost more, and fewer produced more last season. The new frame is his bet that both hold in spring.
